ill informed people. . . easily influenced
A very interesting topic came up today in one of my classes during an analysis of President Bush's innaugural address. While going over the certain themes involved in his speech, a specific topic came up involving the U.S.'s "mission" to "force" freedom upon other countries. I see nothing wrong w/ criticizing the "forecful" introduction of democracy to states such as Iraq and Afghanistan. But what annoys me is that people my age seem to be so easily influenced and believe the first thing they read concerning political happenings. Watch more news programs than just CNN or Fox News or Yahoo! News -- read a VARIETY of sources before you open your mouth.
As I said, I see nothing wrong with criticism, but what I did see wrong was the stance taken by some of the students in my class.
One girl piped up and said "We watched a movie in psychology a couple weeks ago and it was interviewing people from the Middle East. The people interviewed men at the age of about 20 years old and they were saying they did not want democracy. They like look at America and like have hatred towards us"
First of all, the Middle East is not ONE country and second of all you need to specify which country you may be referring to. Not every country in the Middle East lets their people just openly denounce their government, so of course they would denounce democracy if they're closely watched.
Also, don't you think 20 year olds are easily influenced? If you don't think so, just look at how many people there are that get drunk because they think it's "cool," which is a sign of peer pressure. And I'm sure 20 year olds in the Middle East are even more easily influenced, but only in countries run by Islamic extremists. These kids are recruited at such young ages, they're most likely brain-washed by the time they're 20. Point: Interview a wide variety of people, not just 20 year olds.
Another girl said "Yeah, some people in the world don't want democracy."
You're from Virginia and you're speaking for the world? I guess you're legit. You sound like every other opposition group. Take a trip to Iraq and find out how many people support democracy as opposed to the tyranny of Saddam Hussein. Take a trip to African countries where humanitarian aid is horded by warlords and millions of people are starving to death. In democracy, there are no warlords hording food from their people. Freedom or torture and starvation?? That's a tough one! Who wouldn't want democracy? It seems as if through history democracies are the only ones surviving without severe problems. Why do you think America and other democracies have the majority of immigrants?
For example
Without America:
Iraq would still be under the tyrannous regime of Saddam Hussein. Thousands of insurgents may exist in Iraq still, but they do not outnumber the millions of civilians who are open to democracy. The media even seems to only show groups in Iraq that oppose democracy. Who wouldn't want democracy after being tortured and scared for years under Saddam Hussein?
Of course countries that are led by Islamic extremists or communists will put a view out there that may only be compatible with what their leader thinks. The leaders of these countries will only let out information THEY think is important and they only release THEIR view, not the view of their people.
Well I guess America is just a big fat bully for standing up for human rights and promoting democracy. People in America are becoming soft and aren't as thick skinned as generations before us.
Why are we becoming soft? Because of liberals who seek to hinder progress by creating arguments to contradict the arguments of the President and his administration -- out of spite, they are creating lies. Just because John Kerry didn't win the presidency doesn't mean these regressing liberals have to spread lies. Look at Michael Moore --- Farenheit 9/11 was nothing but a documentary of lies. Quotes can easily be twisted to show something a certain person's way. Check out FarenHYPE 9/11 to find out how dishonest Michael Moore's movie was.
Who wouldn't be mad when they put so much money and time and effort into something to have it blow up in their face? (Moore donated money to Kerry's campaign)
I have nothing against liberals who HELP with the progress of this nation and recognize the needs of Americans -- they will receive no criticism. I have tons of friends that are liberals that fit into this category. Only those liberals who decide to back down and hide in their shell will receive criticism from me because they run away from and avoid problems instead of addressing them head on. John Kerry's plan for Iraq would have left the country in ruins and fighting in civil wars.
Just think of what would've happened if we backed off during the American Revolution, the Civil War, and in World War I and II: We'd still be ruled by Great Britain, we would have only 13 colonies, slavery would still exist and Germany would have become the most evil empire in history.
Speaking about the war in Iraq and soldiers going over to "fight for democracy," the innaugural address said "to preserve democracy here, we must spread democracy to the world." A girl spoke up and said "Yeah, and give up your life.... go ahead."
What do I have to say to her? MOVE TO FRANCE, you'll have company with Johnny Depp. America doesn't need people like you anyways. We can see that you aren't willing to fight for your country's foundations of democracy so get the heck out! Go enjoy the freedoms of France, stop taking advantage of the freedoms earned by millions of dead soldiers from previous wars.
Johnny Depp: You can stay in France and stop mooching off the American economy since America is so "evil." You come here just to make movies, which earns you money, and then you get the heck out. Stop taking our money you communist.
Some people say Bush's innaugural speech was too interlaced with religious meanings and bases, so what? Go read the Declaration of Independence and the Constitution, there are tons of religious references. Read that while you're eating escargo in France, watching mimes do tricks on the street.
At least this President has a moral basis. One day, you'll see why that is and you'll see you've been fighting against something fighting for you!
